Once considered a niche segment, sustainable agriculture has become one of the fastest-growing sectors in Canada, driven by rising consumer demand for high-quality, environmentally friendly food products. The market for organic agricultural goods has been expanding at a steady rate of approximately 8% annually over the past four years. As of 2020, Canada was actively exporting organic products to over 127 countries, according to Export Development Canada. The country is home to more than 7,500 organic farms, accounting for around 2% of Canada’s total arable land—a figure that continues to rise and signals strong long-term potential.

Canada is currently the fastest-growing organic food market in North America, with increasing concern among consumers over the environmental effects of synthetic fertilizers and the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). While organic fertilizer production in Canada is still in its early stages, demand is growing rapidly. As a result, international manufacturers are now seeking to expand their presence in the Canadian market.

To support this momentum, the Canadian government is investing in agricultural innovation and production capacity, with a focus on projects that promote organic fertilizer development. These initiatives are helping to raise public awareness about sustainable farming practices and will continue to drive demand for organic fertilizers across the country. The Canadian fertilizer industry is supported by a national industry association representing producers, manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers of nitrogen, phosphate, and potash fertilizers. This organization not only

contributes to the growth of agriculture but also promotes sustainability, safety, and innovation through research, development, and strict standards of practice.
